CAMPING FEES AND PERMITS

Policy and Procedures

All camping fees are per person per night:

  • Adult (18 years of age & over): $5.00 per night
  • Junior (13 years to 17 years): $2.00 per night
  • Child (12 years and under): $1.00 per night

Internet camping permits are assessed a service charge in addition to the above fees.  Internet camping fees per person per night are as follows:

  • Adults (18 years of age and older): $5.00 per night, plus a $1.00 transaction fee per night for a total of $6.00 per night
  • Juniors (13 years to 17 years): $2.00 per night, plus a $.25 transaction fee per night for a total of $2.25 per night
  • Children (12 years and under): $1.00 per night

For each calendar year from June-August, a person may camp for a total of not more than 7 nights.  For each calendar year from January-May and September-December, a person may camp for a total of not more than 14 nights.  (i.e. If you camp 4 nights in June then 3 nights in July, you will not be able to camp again until September.  If you camp 7 nights in January then 7 nights in September, you will not be able to camp again until the next calendar year.)  Permits may be obtained by persons 18 years of age or older.

Purchasing a Camping Permit

Check for camping availability by calling (808) 328-7321, Monday through Friday from 8am-4pm, HST, or checking the KUPA website at http://www.hookena.org/camping.

Camping permit applications must include the following information:

  • Name, address, and phone number of applicant.  If applicant represents and organization, include the name of the organization and business phone number.

  • Number of persons in the party, and the names and identification numbers of those 18 years or older covered by the permit.  Acceptable identification includes driver's license, state photo identification, passport, or other foreign photo identification.  When submitting an application by mail, a copy of the identification must be included with the application.

  • Date in and out (length of stay).

Reservations can be made by:

1.  Going online to http://www.hookena.org and entering the reservation system.  A link to this web page will appear on the County of Hawa`i website on the Parks and Recreation page.  Payment for internet camping reservations will be made by credit card through paypal services.  After completing payment on the paypal.com website make sure you click the link that returns you to hookena.org to view and print your camping permit.

Online reservations are limited to 4 adults, 4 juniors, and 4 children.  If your group exceeds those limitations, complete your reservation for as many campers as possible, print your camping permit, and then return to the beginning and make another reservation for the rest of the campers in your group.

2.  Calling (808) 328-7321 Monday though Friday between the hours of 8am to 4pm.  If there is no answer, please leave a clear message of your preferred camping date(s), phone number, and name.  The concession manager will respond within 24 hours.

  • Payment must be received within 7 working days of reservation confirmation.

  • Checks or money orders will only be accepted up to 14 days prior to camping.  Only cash payments will be accepted after that time.  Checks and money orders whould be sent to the address below and will be deposited into KUPA's paypal account.

    Cash payments will be accepted at the concession stand at Ho`okena Beach Park from Thursday through Sunday between the hours of 10am and 4pm.  The concession manager will issue a receipt.

3.  A permit may be purchased from the Concession Manager or Aloha Patrol at Ho`okena beach on a first come first served space available basis.  The concession manager or Aloha Patrol will issue a receipt.  Identification must be presented at that time.  The concession stand is open Thursday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm, and Aloha Patrol is available between 6pm through 8pm daily.

  • Only cash payments will be accepted when making reservations less than 14 days prior to camping.

  • Cash payments shall be made at the concession stand or to the Aloha Patrol Agent at Ho`okena Beach Park.  If a site is available, you will receive a receipt and permit at the time of payment.
